[...] This year’s second annual conference on Graphic novels was more focused on the printed word as the talk on anime licensing was shelved. I’ll go through each panel individually, discussing key stats: ICv2 White Paper–Graphic Novels: Growth and Change Quite a few bloggers, Mangablog, and Comics212 for stats. I’m going to pick at a couple of them and calculate some numbers based on what was presented: [...]

Sorry I couldn't chat with you at ICV2GN2.
In the book world, Diamond has influence by distributing Marvel and many small publishers which weren't available to libraries and bookstores five years ago.
Bookazine and graphic novels? hmmm. BWI always seemed to be the big GN jobber, offering reinforced bindings and other services. BZ is a good company, they are my store's first stop for reorders.

Hi Chris Butcher!
It was nice meeting you Friday at NYCC. You are lucky to live in Toronto, such a beautiful city. Sorry I won't be able to see any panels you are on. Eight year old Lillian, who is selling $2 mini comics next to dad Kyle (Baker), tried to give someone change for a five in coins, so I have to stay close to our booth (#953). Enjoy the rest of the con.
Take care,
Liz

[...] The cool kids are already at NYCC, you know. Chris Butcher talked about his experiences at Day 0: Aside from the drinking, the after-event social was a good place to mix and mingle with folks from every facet of the comics industry. I met book distributors, buyers, publishers, literary agents, aspiring creators, even a few direct market retailers… My panel-appearance let me converse with my comics-betters freely, and it was amazing to pick up so many divergent viewpoints on the industry that we have, let alone the future of it. I have to say it left me really excited about the medium AND the industry, and I’ve never had a clearer, better sense that this is going to be an industry that will very soon exist as more than a 500 page monthly catalogue. I have no doubt that Diamond will continue to be a huge industry mover-and-shaker, but it looks like we’ll make it out of PREVIEWS and into the real world sooner than later… [...]

Don't forget Ace Frehley's version of "New York Groove". BTW, will you be taking pics of the foods you encounter? Just wondering cause I've always enjoyed Keen Soo's food reports.

Great entry! But real reason I'm leaving a comment... I'm so glad you mentioned Witch! I have three of the graphic novels and that's what introduced me to SkyDoll as well. It's totally the kind of thing I'd be obsessed over as a little girl, so I'm glad someone on the blogosphere is mentioning it. =)
