228 pages? I did the calculation of the stories, and mine come out to 249 pages. Is one of those stories going to be left out?

Still, this is great news. I've been waiting a LONG time for a publisher to take the reins on Moto Haigo ever since I read A'A Prime years ago. I was greatly disappointed when Vertical made their foray into old-school Shojo with their subpar Toward the Terra, which I found difficult to warm up to, despite your awesome preview of the series. It might have been the lukewarm reaction that led them away from the crowd and reluctant to continue pushing in that general direction. On the plus side, we got Seinin Mangas from Tezuka, including the inimitable Black Jack, so it's not all bad news there. Just general disappointment.

Hopefully, Fantagraphics will be able to take the chance on Haigo's Poe Family series, which I've also been very curious about. Chalk up this book as SOLD in my general direction.

Thanks for the buzz, Chris. The Comics Journal #269 actually came out in 2005 (but a great issue it was, wasn't it?). I had been daydreaming about this sort of manga line since at least 2000, but if I recall correctly, it was sometime in 2007 that I asked Dirk about the possibility of doing it at Fantagraphics, and Dirk responded something to the effect of "We so have to do that." It is definitely not a Shogakukan-only line. For the first book, we chose the artist first, and then approached Shogakukan and Viz, who were extremely helpful, and who have generously agreed to help us out with future titles. But, yeah, we haven't got an imprint name yet, as far as I know. I'm thinking something like, "Valerie, The Disconcertingly Deleterious Manga Imprint." Okay, I just made that up off the top of my head. Anyway, it's good to hear that so many people are happy about the news.
