The first thing I noticed in the 1st photo (apart from Dork Diaries, the girly equivalent of the Wimpy Kid series, only not as well done) was the release of another Herman collection. I’m probably a bigger fan of Herman than you are, but what I really hope for is that, rather than have them do sporadic releases of re-coloured and rewritten material, they go the whole hog and do an archival version of the strip, like the Far Side collection. There’s TONS of dailies and Sundays that haven’t been seen for years, and like the Peanuts collections, fans of Jim Unger’s works would appreciate not having to track down multiple books to catch a few elusive strips they’re missing.
An index in the back could note which outdated punchlines were changed to reflect the current status quo, such as the wife who said to her husband on his exercycle, “Don’t go too far. You’ll miss Gunsmoke”. That cowboy show was changed to the more relateable Seinfeld.
I still haven’t checked out my airport’s bookstore, because everytime I go to one, it’s usually too late for me to browse around since the plane’s leaving soon. Maybe I should go there when I don’t have to catch a flight and see how yours and mine compares.
Looking forward to more bookstore shots in Japan, though bookstore shots in Canada are just as interesting too.
