I Really Enjoyed “Tokyo Is My Garden”

cover_lit.jpgI just re-read Frederik Peeters, Frederic Boilet, and Jiro Taniguchi’s Tokyo Is My Garden from Fanfare/Ponent-Mon. It’s really good, surprisingly good even. I’ve heard less discussion of this book than any high-end ‘art-manga’ released since… hell, Blue Spring or Number 5. Did anyone else read this? Thoughts?

  1. Yes, I read it, and I have half a review lurking somewhere on my computer. I didn’t think I would like it, but I did. It managed to tickle my brain while also being entertaining; I genuinely liked the characters, although I thought the love story at the center of the book was a bit thin.

    Good stuff.

  2. Chris, maybe you could go into a bit more detail about what you liked. I read this and enjoyed it, but it didn’t strike me as anything to get excited about either. As Brigid mentions, the love story was pretty thin, and at times the art felt like it was just there instead of telling the story.
